We’re proud to celebrate Coach Jack on earning his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — a milestone years in the making.
Jack began training at just 5 years old, growing up on the mats and developing not only his skills, but the discipline and mindset that Jiu-Jitsu builds over time. This promotion represents countless hours of hard work, consistency, and dedication to the art.
Now as a coach, Jack brings his experience and passion to every class, setting an incredible example for our students and proving what’s possible through long-term commitment.

AACE Martial Arts Academy – Winter Grading 2025
Our most recent grading at AACE Martial Arts Academy was a strong reminder of what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is all about—commitment, growth, and community.
Every student on the mat represented countless hours of training, perseverance, and consistency. Grading isn’t just about belts or stripes; it’s about recognizing personal development, attitude, and dedication to the journey.
Seeing the team lined up together—from beginners to advanced ranks—reflected the culture we continue to build at AACE. Each promotion was met with genuine support and respect from teammates who understand the work behind every step forward.
Congratulations to everyone who graded, and to those continuing to put in the work—your time is coming.
See you on the mats.
Also, a huge congratulations to our kids classes! Our young students showed incredible focus, effort, and confidence during their most recent grading. Their hard work, positive attitudes, and commitment to learning were on full display, and we couldn’t be prouder of their progress. Great job to all our kids at AACE Martial Arts, keep training and having fun on the mats!
A Huge Thank you to professor Nick and His wife Sam for taking an evening off and coming to teach and guide our students here at AACE.
Nick has gone above and beyond to help build our gym and its a honor to learn from him.
Having BJJ professors from another gym come in to teach can be incredibly beneficial for both students and the overall growth of a program. These instructors often bring fresh perspectives, new techniques, and different styles of teaching that complement and expand on what students already know. Exposure to diverse systems, strategies, and details can help break plateaus and deepen understanding, especially when a professor specializes in a particular area like leg locks, pressure passing, or competition strategy. It also fosters a stronger sense of community and connection within the broader BJJ world, promoting collaboration over rivalry. Guest instruction can spark new motivation, reinforce the value of lifelong learning, and encourage students to stay curious and open-minded on the mats.

" A small part of our team and the memories created in our first year."
Our team and bonds created through years.
Guvna and our team has been in the builds for over 20 years, We have built a family and community of love, respect, friendship.
“Over the past 20 years, we’ve built more than just a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community — we’ve created a family. With every roll, every challenge, and every victory, we’ve grown stronger, not just on the mats but in our bonds. Here’s to the countless hours spent learning, supporting, and pushing each other to be better every day. Together, we’ve turned our passion into a legacy, and the journey is just getting started!”
Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team is built on a foundation of friendship, where every roll on the mats strengthens the bonds between us. From the very beginning, it wasn’t just about technique or competition—it was about supporting each other, learning together, and pushing one another to grow. We’ve shared countless moments, both on and off the mats, that have made us more than just teammates; we’ve become a family. The growth of our friendships is a testament to the power of BJJ not only in shaping our skills but in fostering a community where trust, respect, and camaraderie are at the heart of everything we do.
Belt System
The BJJ belt system for adults includes the following ranks:
White Belt: The starting point for all practitioners. At this level, students focus on foundational techniques and understanding the basics of BJJ.
Blue Belt: Awarded to students who demonstrate a solid understanding of fundamental techniques and the ability to apply them in live sparring.
Purple Belt: Represents an intermediate level of mastery. Purple belts are proficient in both offense and defense and often begin to develop their unique style.
Brown Belt: A senior rank that signals advanced knowledge and technical skill. Brown belts often help teach and mentor lower-ranked students.
Black Belt: The pinnacle of BJJ ranks, signifying expertise, dedication, and the ability to contribute to the art as a teacher and practitioner.
In addition to these, there are coral belts (red/black and red/white) and the prestigious red belt for individuals who have devoted decades to BJJ and made significant contributions to the art.
What Makes BJJ Grading Unique?
BJJ’s grading system is known for its rigor and high standards, which ensure that belt promotions are meaningful. It’s not uncommon for practitioners to spend several years at a single belt level, and this is considered a testament to the depth of learning and skill development in BJJ.
Merit-Based System: Promotions are earned, not given, which makes each belt a significant achievement.
Individualized Progression: Instructors consider each student’s journey, recognizing that progress can look different for everyone.
No Quick Fix: BJJ’s emphasis on mastery over time ensures that belts truly reflect a practitioner’s abilities and knowledge.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s grading system is more than just a way to measure progress—it’s a reflection of the hard work, perseverance, and personal growth that come with training. Whether you’re earning stripes on your white belt or striving for your black belt, each step is an achievement worth celebrating. Remember, BJJ is a lifelong journey, and the true reward lies in the skills and character you build along the way.
